In order to make lighter tails for bug costumes made of spandex I often use novelty inflatable objects.
My Ant (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/10259850/) and my housefly (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/13809281/), both have inflatable footballs for the tail cores.
Since a mosquito has a longer abdomen I used an inflatable banana to get the right shape :D
