AMD sucks and Intel is way to expensive - better don't buy a PC? XD

I really don't like that people always compare AMD and Intel or even AMD and nVidia.
That is like you compare a car with otto-motor, with one pot a tubro diesel engine, the cars from Tesla or even the Toyota hybrids.

I think AMD and Intel/nVidia can not be confered - cause they are totally different.

What is the measure for performance?

Many think that e.g. an AMD Quadcore @ 3,2GHz is the same than an Intel Core 2 Quad @ 3,2GHz.
But I think you know about that.

After asking Uncle Wikipedia I know about some thing like MIPS (million instructions per second)
I will take a look at that, if I build a computer next time, I'm curious what will come out. XD
