Figured it was high time I made a new one of these!
*sticks middle finger to FA's size restriction* refresh for the mostly full size!
Viewable on Tumblr in a segmented version for easier viewing, and viewable as really large full size on Deviantart.

Painting tutorial go!
The instruction is very basic because it only covers the photoshop + brush techniques I use, and not the accumulated learning I've gained over the years. That can only come through practice and repetition, unfortunately! But as long as you keep trying, you slowly develop your skills.
Obviously the tools and things are applicable only to Photoshop users.
As for referencing images... I have a references folder with over 3000 files inside it. It's HUGE. Save everything so you know how things work, what things look like, and draw from real life as much as you possibly can, because it really boosts your understanding especially when you can interact with or change your angle when viewing the reference.

It's sort of like traditional layering but without waiting time in between if you're using paints. You can't exactly get something like a cloth or your finger and smudge digital paint around so it's the next best thing
but I still don't understand people who use more than 30 like
what are you using them for. pls stop

Well, being a pencil artist, and Prismacolor at that, I can't really even layer colors. I just about get one shot at what I do and that is it.
When I use paints of any sort, it is usually watercolors with the same problem.
The only time I use a lot of layers is for my vector work but that is more because I don't have much of a choice. Illustrator automatically puts everything on a different layer.
But since when do I do vector or watercolor art anymore? xD
I can't deny that digital art has my medias outclassed in ease of use and final result. I guess I just can't except moving on. You make fancy stuff look so easy to do in this tutorial.
