THIS IS AWARENESS of a dangerous "game" that some children play, the choking game. Kids squeeze their friend's chest or neck until they pass out, because it gives them a quick high. An expert explains, 'While the brain is deprived of oxygen, there is a sensation of light-headedness, numbness, and tingling. If all goes as planned, the pressure is then released. Blood goes torrenting up those carotid arteries and it goes into the brain and there is a big rush. Some kids play the game alone using shoelaces, ropes, dog leashes, bed sheets, and belts. even there own hands. Timing is key, but not everyone has good timing.

This my fictional story about Chilla & her cousin Isiah.

the story begins when Chilla takes her husband Cain on a trip down memory lane to the days of her childhood. when he joins Chilla on a trip back to Israel to meet her other family members her aunts uncles & cousins . For Passover

Cain learns that Chillas cousin has brain damage. she is blind mute & can barely feed & dress herself, has the mind of a child. & communicates with sign language.

Chilla tells Cain how Her cousin use to be Normal when he asked what happens to her. Chilla recounts the final days of when she knew her cousin for how she use to be. she still feels sadden as she feels that there was something she could have done. Chilla tells Cain that her cousin Ester was quite the dare devil , tomboy & would take great risk. & some that seemed scary to chilla.

& begins the flash back of her & her Boyfriend Joseph getting ready for winter break. the two had just had a fiasco over a dangerous game Josph tried to introduce Chilla too.

When ester comes to Scotland to see her cousin & uncle Daniel & aunt Aliza. for Hanukkah that year. Ester tells Chilla about a game called the Choking game. Chilla had herd of it from Joseph her BF at the time. also played it. As she had argued with him just recently about it & has become quite the "buzz" around her school

Ester offered to teach it to chilla but Chilla refused weary of the dangers of the game. & was worried for her cousin who appeared addicted to it as she attempts the game behind lock doors of Chillas bedroom. Chilla is in panic when her cousin faints on her bed motionless. she is unresponsive. when She finally wakes up from her rush . Chillas dad over hearing his daughters panicking scream rushes in & questions the girls. Chilla Lies to her dad in an attemp to cover up Ester foolish game.

Ester only laughs at her cousins panicking scream as a joke. She explains that it is the "rush" you get before you regain consciousness that makes the game fun. But Chilla did not find it to amusing. she found it scary & dangerous telling her cousin not to do it & explained to her the dangers that she was worried & doesn't like seeing Joseph do it ether.
ester offered to teach her cousin the game telling her to keep it secret from her parents but Chilla was uncomfortable & scared of it. & told Isiah that she was not interested.


As weeks go on Joseph ester & her other friends continue to play. Chilla is sworn to secrecy by Joseph & her cousin in fear that she may be a tattle tale if she ratted them out. & if she did tell would that still want to be her friend.

Joseph already had made the remark

JOSEPH: you better not tell I will beat your face in I swear to God

CHILLA: I won't tell I promise

even though the two were dating at the time. Josphs Delusions catch on to Chilla after she noticed her Boyfriends blood shot eyes. & ask him if he was high. Joseph at this point would even hurt Chilla & was paranoid of Chilla telling there folks. that it had become was a daily harassment.




thorough out the time being Chilla is conflicted between her friends & spreading awareness about the dangerous game she refused to play. she is bullied in school by some of her peers because she refused to play the game But Joseph would do anything for Popularity. as Chilla struggles with peer pressure from friends

A few days before summer break the following year chilla had grown worried for her cousin. she had stopped receiving calls & IMs from her cousin. all of a sudden . it is then when Chilla & her family are called to a family emergency & Chilla & her family go to Israel to spend the summer with her. Chilla goes to see her cousin & notices that she was not as she was before. & tries to talk to her but she is unresponsive. she stumbles blindly. hearing chilla talking to her & tries to talk back but all that she could make out was a faint moan & whimpering sounds

The first time Chilla saw her, she had to fight back tears. Her excitingly Spunky cousin wasn't as energetic as she use to be . nor did she greet Chilla with a hug when she came in to see her.
ester can't do a lot of things anymore, but she can still walk if she holds onto the wall.
She could throw a ball, but can't catch one.
She can dress herself if she concentrates hard.
She can say no, but her tongue gets stuck on the n sometimes. She can say yes, but holds the s until her breath runs out. But anything longer than one syllable turns into a stream of giberish, no vowels in between.
Ester can play the dreidel game with Chilla but she can't recite the prayer or light the Menorah.

ester can hear Chilla talking to her. but ester can't see Chilla. or talk back to her as she use to do. ester was not the same anymore

as her aunt explains Chilla over hears her aunt telling her brother Daniel about Ester. as Daniel was in concern for his nieace. wondered what happend. & told him that she had been choking herself.

When ester choked herself she hit her head causing her to have a stroke. she was rushed to the Hospital doctors say she was extrmely lucky. when she came out of it she could not talk right & suffication of the brain had taken her sight she could no longer see without stumbling & had lost a majoriy of her brain cells from lack of Oxygen.ester now must depend on her family to help her recover. by giving her speech therapy. Ocupational therapy & helping her relearn some of her basic skills. but not all her skills can be re learned.

Chilla feels guilty that she didn't say anything before & confesses to her family that she knew that ester had been choking herself. Playing the choking game for a long time. she knew the dangers & feels at fault for not telling her elders in the first place. If she had told them about the choking game then nothing would have happend to ester. she told her family that ester & Joseph told her that it would be tattling if she had said something


Daniel replies to his sobbing daughter that when some one is doing something dangerous, or hurtful it is not tattle telling. Chilla decides to make it up to her cousin by spreading awareness about the Choking game in activist groups at her school.
