NOTE: Don't worry, I did not just lose my pet! :P
I had to put my dog down well over two years ago, and although I made a little photo montage at the time, the experience was too raw for me to attempt any memorial artwork. I still miss her a lot, and I've been dealing with some stress lately, so when late one night last week I felt inspired to do some personal art (it's therapeutic, right?) I decided the time was right :3
I'd always felt a keen sense of having a dog-shaped hole in my heart until I finally got my first dog, and now that she's gone the hole is back. I'm now living in an apartment where I can't have any pets at all, which sucks, but it was deliberate... we knew we wouldn't have the money or time to properly care for a new dog(s) while Tigorilla was in school, and this apartment was a way to keep us away from temptation. I can't complain, my life is still awesome and I know the next few years will pass by quicker than I'd like in many ways, hehe! And in the meantime, I consider myself lucky to have had that friendship, and all the fond memories I still keep close to my heart.

Awwwwwwwww ;^;
It's been 9 years, and I STILL miss my fur-baby. Diamond, the sweetest, dumbest, fastest, pitbull you will ever meet. She was built like a Pit Bull Terrier, but she was peroxide-blonde. (My theory is that she was crossed with a yellow lab.)
Had to give her to a friend when I had to move for work. She jumped their six-foot fence, and got struck head-on by a large truck on a six-lane road. Report says it was instant.
It does get a bit better after a while, and remembering the good times can help. But keeping yourself away from having another dog for a while will definitely help. It's better to grieve, and find peace with her loss first, before you get another pet.

Awww :( It sucks when the end is so unexpected like that, but I guess at least it was quick. Several of my friends have pittie crosses and they're all completely adorable goofballs - built like tanks though, I probably wouldn't be strong enough to hold one away from a squirrel, haha!
The trick is to get low, and get your hips on the same level as your knees. Drop your center of gravity down and back, in a direction away from the one your pitbull is lunging in. Training them properly is a MUST. otherwise they become sweet, friendly, uncontrollable weapons of mass destruction. They don't MEAN any harm by chewing a hole right through your front door.... they just wanted to go and find you, so they don't have to be away from you all day long.
My dog's near death's door, and this honestly cheers me up a little bit... not knowing that dogs die, just the knowledge that you never really forget them. Beautiful. It's a comfort. He's blind, mostly deaf, super senile, covered in pustules and starting to forget the layout of the place... my visit tonight might have been the last time I see him. Glad you got this out of your system... It's always tough.

<3 Awww Rayda. Miss her. I've been thinking of her lately every time my dog greets me by rolling on her back and waiting for me to rub her chest, just like Rayda always did. I miss you too! if you ever want dog time, and forest time, I'm not far away. Come visit sometime? Its spring and the wildflowers will be blooming soon :)
