This is nothing, really.
Just wanted to show this off after having the idea for it for so long.
This is Coolie, the very odd Flygon.
Why very odd? Well, lets look and see...
Dumbass facts about Coolie:
-His arm was amputated after having it badly damaged in a bad scuffle with another Pokemon.
- Has Heterochromia. one eye is brown and the other is blue
- Wings were also amputated. but for an unknown reason.
- Strangely, Coolie was born purely Female. but after evolving into a Vibrava she slowly began to develop traits usually seen on males.
it became even more obvious after evolving into a Flygon where they now had the same red skin flap usually adorned by males as well as a darker colored crest, longer tail plates and now also male genitalia.
Coolie is now in Professor Rowan's care in the Sinnoh region, where he is one of the more popular study subjects.
everyone wants to know what happened with him, and what caused him to change sex so drastically.
-Coolie is an unusually large specimen, standing at 9 feet tall. 3 feet taller than the usual 6 feet in other Flygon.
-One more random fact, his name was originally 'Babygirl'. but with the sudden change in gender, the situation called for a new name.
sadly, despite being one of the most well known Professors aside from Mr. Oak himself, Rowan was never good at giving Pokemon nicknames.
Dumbass facts about Flygon in general:
-Flygon are actually very rare in the wild (near endangered) due to poaching and overhunting for their bones and hides (often used as aphrodisiacs and leather for bags).
-Females are capable of asexual reproduction.
some may go their whole lives without seeing another individual of the opposite sex in the wild, so this weird ability actually kinda comes in handy for keeping the population alive somewhat (minus the poaching thing).
-Despite their graceful looks, Flygon are actually pretty aggressive. some have even been witnessed going toe to toe with other large bodied Hoenn beasts like Salamence and Aggron for food and territory. a tourist even videotaped one violently killing a Tropious and then leaving the carcass without ever touching it again. it's still unknown why this happened.
-They have many biological features that are common in Bug types (including mandible-like appendages in their mouths like insects) but are instead dual typed with Ground, and no one knows why. this gives them the title; "The most baffling/bizarre Dragon".
-Pure wild Vibrava are very different from their domestic bred cousins when it comes to evolving.
unlike their domesticated counterparts that evolve immediately as soon as they reach a certain level, Wild Vibrava are required to burrow underground, shed their skins and become a cocoon, and sleep for 2 whole years. after those 2 years have passed, they will emerge from the ground as fully evolved Flygon.
-Alongside humans, the other threat for the Wild Flygon population is an invading subspecies of Garchomp.
they compete with Flygon for the same food, and due to them being much stronger, fighting them often brings a fatal end to the Flygon should they fail to escape. even worse, many Vibrava don't get to reach adulthood thanks to Gible and Gabite digging underground and feeding on their vulnerable cocoons.
-There are presumably only 300 Flygon left in the wild as of today in comparison to 20 years ago where up to 6000+ used to roam the Hoenn deserts.
Alright, I gotta say it. Flygon, although having a really cool design, has always been something of a big disappointment for me.
back in early 2002-2003 when it was first revealed, I fell in love with it immediately, but after actually using it in fights...eh....yeah.
this was pretty much my way of trying to make this Pokemon interesting for me again. :/
so sorry about the long ass description.
I still like it. alongside Dragonite, Hydreigon and Garchomp, it's one of my top favorite Dragon types, but I've never had very good luck with raising one that didn't die at the blink of an eye in any kind of fight.
