The masking tape is part of my furring process. Some fursuiters are skilled enough to just use one big piece of fur and cut/shape as they spread it out over the head and go along, but I use the tape to partition the head into smaller segments. Those segments are cut out and used as patterns for corresponding pieces of fur that I cut out from my ginormous piece of fur, and then I piece the fur together like puzzle pieces when I glue the fur onto the head. I use directional arrows to make sure the fur goes in the correct direction (and yes, fur does have a particular direction it needs to go in, just look at your cat or dog if you need an example). The screwdriver, I've discovered while making other fursuits, is a perfect size for me to hold the jaw open to leave a gap and loose fur along the edges of the jaw, so that there's enough slack in the fur on the cheeks so that the mouth can open and close with ease when the wearer talks.
