this is a new toy I got while I was at a Celtic fair about 2 hours from where I lived. I went to the fair a couple days ago. and I found a stand where a smith was selling swords and other weapons he forged himself, as well as weapons that he had traded, or bought from other smiths he knew.
This is a Sword hilted dagger, and the blade itself is 12 inches in length. nearly 18 inches overall, with a width of 2 inches at the base above the guard.
it weighs rightly 2 and a half to 3 pounds, and the large pommel weight puts the balance point to being where your index finger would be when gripping the handle. making the blade feel weightless when holding it.
The blade is made from a high carbon steel, and I plan on getting a bottle of gun oil from a local gun shop to keep the blade from rusting.
I have it resting on a paper towel to keep the oil that's already on it from getting on anything while taking the photo.
a follow up will be showing my hand holding it here http://www.furaffinity.net/view/15966246/
PS: I used a bit of basic picture editing to compare this sword hilted dagger to the skyrim steel dagger in terms of size. and they're very similar. the only reason why the blade on the steel dagger in skyrim looks so gigantic is because the handle is so narrow. the handle is much wider on the real thing.

Nice... you sure he made it? Looks oddly identical to this one:

Now I really wish I had snagged one of his business cards when I had the chance. but like I said. different smiths can often forge a sword or dagger in a generic style, and they appear similar or identicle because there were very clear guidelines for blade length and thickness or other design details. these were meant to be issued to soldiers in large numbers, and were made to be consistant.
