oh man when was the last time I even tried drawing anything anthro probably high school
First character, first posting, here we go. Forgive my complete lack of imagination here. I haven't tried designing a non-human character since I was, like, seventeen. If you want to suggest better markings, go for it.
Anyway, here's how I'll be representing myself here: the kestraroo! Part kestrel, part kangaroo, all wonderful.
Why those two animals? Back in high school--when all I had ever heard of were the creepy furries and thus didn't want to be associated with them--I represented myself as an anthro kangaroo. This was back in my Neopets days, and my favorite pet was the zafara. I loved their silly smiles and big dumb feet so much, and since zaffies were basically kangaroos, it made sense to represent myself that way. Plus, I liked the idea of having a pouch for storing snacks, knitting projects, and handheld gaming systems--three things I'm never far from.
As for the kestrel part, for the last year, I've been volunteering with an animal-assisted educational program. We use non-releasable raptors and reptiles, and go around to schools and public events, showing off the animals and educating the public about them and about the importance of environmentalism. We had the most handsome little American kestrel who was full of piss and vinegar, and I just loved him. Unfortunately, he passed away--likely due to old age--in September, but I'll never forget him. He was such a dapper little dude.
This kestraroo had been banging around in my brain for a few months before I bit the bullet and signed up here. While I'm still a bit shy about calling myself a furry, there's no doubt that I have a love of anthro critters, so maybe you all can warm me up to the term.
She doesn't have a name yet, but I'm thinking something like Keeta or Kippen, or maybe just Kes. Kes does have a nice sound to it. Or maybe you can come up with something.
Anyway, looking forward to meeting people and hopefully drawing more!
