What fun is there in being normal?
but I get what you mean, if brighter colors will be an eyesore. I'm not too sure. I think it has to do more with other colors that you use, and if they clash.
I think his grey fur might clash a rainbow background, but I'm not too sure.
But, there's nothing wrong with being abnormal. Perhaps your guy has the passive ability to make his surroundings (like 3-4 meters) more colorful. His positive personality is so powerful that it bends light to his will.
