what felt like a let down was that vaulten (or whatever that sigmar guys name was) pretty much had no chance against archeon and then who wins? an or who DOES NOT behead Archeon....why? i don't knw maybe i am remembering it wrong but it did not make sense to me for this big super ork with a magic weapon that cancels out Archeon's Super Sword just does not go for the kill

Yeah Storm of Chaos sucked. And was made noncanon.

Thing is, it was supposed to be the end times of the Warhammer setting, but was handled...poorly. Like with the Black Crusades, they wanted to put the outcome based on battles fought by rl players and their results published on a website to be counted.

Whether because Chaos players suck or the army codex at the time was just HORRIBLY nerfed, CHaos lost. A lot. Like, almost no chaos player reported victories. The Orks did though. Because Orcs/Orks are always broken.

So yeah, Games Workshop had all the narrative, all the fluff written out with chaos winning in mind, Archaeon killing the representive of Sigmar (which at the time was Valten, but with Endtimes was actually changed to Karl Franz, who also received the Magic Wind of Heaven bound into his body) and bringing about the end of the world as it was prophecised. And then the Waaghboss just came in, kicked him in the nads, proclaimed himself DA BEST! and left.

So yeah, Storm of Chaos never happened or is retconned. End Times is the current storyline and probably the last for the WH fantasy setting as we know it, since several armies dont exist anymore (Bretonnia got pretty much wiped out, all human nations except the Imperium are overrun or destroyed, Lustria was Majoras Mask'd by the skaven crashing Morrslieb into it and the surviving Lizardmen fucked off into space, and dont ask me what the fuck happened to the dwarves, but I think they are either bunkered in or are with the Empire) or are bound into one (like the Skaven working together with the Beastmen and Chaos Norsemen, Malekith turning out to be the true king of elvenkind and now leading an army of the surviving High, Wood and Dark Elves into battle and Nagash dominating ALL undead in existance after curbstomping the last of the tombkings) and pretty much all or most of the world is dead. So either the elves under Malekith or surviving humans and dwarves under God-Emperor Karl Franz and the last Dwarven King manage to kill BOTH the combined forces of all that is Chaos and all that is undead, or Archaon kills both Nagash and his undead goons and kills the surviving good guys, destroying the world by having it ripped apart by a rift of Chaos, or Nagash kills everyone and then fulfills his plan of invading the WARP ITSELF, consuming the 4 chaos gods, becoming both Chaos Undivided AND the CHaos god of undeath.

So yeah, 2/3 the chance the world is entirely fucked and 1/3 says its gonna be a medieval fantasy wasteland.

And last time I checked, it seems Archaon and Sigmar (Yes, Sigmar himself) fight over Ghal Maraz as the world around them gets sucked into the Chaos rift, so yeah, everyones dead. And apparantly this is the plan, because shortly before several elven gods took some of the Bretonians (because one of the elven goddesses was also the Lady of the lake, go figures) and elves and brought them to another dimension. Apparantly the world of Warhammer has been killed over and over again, the survivors of the former catacylsmic destruction by the warp ending up as the deities of the next world, and the elvish gods made sure theres at least a few survivors of man and elvenkind to start the next world. And also Warhammer 40k is an alternate universe, because the elven gods met Kaldar Draigo in the Warp when they rescued one of their own from Nurgle, and the Skaven built a warpstone-powered radio and picked up what they described as "elvish sounding creatures", aka Eldars.

Oh and the orcs are somewhere in there too, but since all the Orcspawn (aka Spores, because Orcs are walking fungi) in the ground have been burnt and all the orcs in existance now seem to be sterile, even if they should go and kill all the other forces, yeah, no more orcs probably.

Well, so far its only an end to Warhammers story, pretty much. 9th Edition aint out yet.

And that's why whenever I play a spellcaster in D&D or something, I load up with lots of spells that manipulate the battlefield. Mar might be immune to magic, but it'll take even him a measurable amount of time to plow through a ten-foot-thick wall of solid stone.
