Testing out Daz Studio 4.8 with Iray. Iray is a GPU accelerated render engine, meaning it uses the computer's CPU and graphics card to render out images. The results are pretty nice, and the time it takes to render isn't bad either. This render took roughly 23 minutes.
It has a learning curve though. Ive been playing with it all day and this was only 1 of a handful of successful renders. But this is what I have determined so far:
Pros:
Faster than Luxrender
Good quality
Can handle larger scenes
Cons
Currently unable to render hair (due to the hair program I use)
Slower than 3Delight
One reason I think its going so slow is because my graphic's card isn't anything special. Its a GT630M I think, 1 GB of memory. If I want it to go faster, or if I want to use other GPU accelerated/GPU only engines (Like Octane) I need a bigger card.
I've thought about offering this quality rendering as a commission option. It would be more expensive due to the render time and extra setup, but that extra money would go straight into savings for a newer computer. I need to learn the program a bit better before I do any commissions with it.

Those new materials are likely the Iray standard materials, Iray like many other render engines have their own material setup that's different than a software's native shaders and textures. Often, this means that the render engine cannot understand these other shaders, and will generally render them white or not at all unless support for those shaders are built in. Mental Mill shaders work between Mental Ray and Iray both, regardless of the program that's using the engine - so they're like universal shaders.
Indigo, Vray, and Maxwell all have their own material types as well.

Ill have to try it out when I get home (sittin at college right now between classes). :)
I just need to find where to place the shaders. I haven't seen anything 'out of the ordinary' or new on Daz's shader tab. But it sounds like I can use it in Maya at least, which will help with my game concept stuff.

I render everything on my laptop, I don't yet have a desktop computer to take the brunt of it. Rendering from a laptop is more difficult, but you just have to remember to plug it in before clicking the render button. My 4 hour battery will go away in 30 minutes if I don't XD.
But it is a slightly more powerful-than-normal laptop. Its main feature setting it apart is a graphics card. So that helps it a little. And I have a lap cooler, so I place it on that to keep it from getting insanely hot.
And thanks :D expect more of this quality.
