I've had it in the back of my mind for a long time that making a curly tail would be a fun challenge. But I'd never really bothered! Recently I saw someone's method of drafting a pattern for a totally different tail shape and wondered immediately if THAT was how people sewed tails that could actually curl back over themselves. (As it turns out, no, that's not really how people usually do it, hahah).
But as is typical with me, once the idea got in my head to try this, I couldn't NOT do it. And I already had all the supplies! I didn't have to buy anything to make this tail.
Faux fur (DF white shag and a local find from about 10 years ago). No wires or armatures. Stuffed with regular ol' polyfill. The curl is all due to the sewing pattern. I sewed darts in the top; you can find simple patterns pretty easily online that show what that means and how to do it. Also this is totally handsewn! (My stuff tends to take longer because I'm almost always too lazy to bother with a machine).
It's -slightly- oversized on me as you can probably tell. I'm also pretty small. On a more average size person it doesn't look quite so big.
I kind of hope I actually have an excuse to wear this in the future! I think it's pretty cute. It was an interesting challenge, anyway, and I'm really pretty pleased with how it came out. If I were to do it again I think I'd make it a weeeeee bit smaller/thinner, and I'd REALLY like to use an even longer fur for the white part.
