Because she looks vaguely like Mayehm from Renard's lot, and people love those shark tits.

I don't see much similarities with mayhem other than shark xD They're different shark species, different colours and mayhem has big tits and proper sharky hands & feet.

But Neo is almost the default aventity shark from SL :P

Yeah, vague almost works. My point was there's a famous female shark with headphones around, and the poser probably thought your character would be easier to rip off.

They weren't only ripping the character tho, they did also use my artist name and claim my artwork as theirs, while presenting themseleves as if they were Neo instead of Neko, although at first it looked like a clever move since I do use the nick Neotheta in places where I'm not presenting as the artist me (steam, SL, irc) but when I saw the chatlogs they seemed to just be more factionated about the character rather than my fursonas, but it's hard to say.

Would it help if they credited you for the design and didn't claim to be you, the person, or to own the character? A lot of people like roleplaying as fictional characters, and Tumblr blogs like "Ask Twilight Sparkle" are a thing.

I don't like people roleplaying as my characters, it feels creepy and it can also cause misunderstandings, I prefer people to make their own characters. I'm alright with people using some of my arts as icons when they're of popular characters (like pokemon, or generic animal) which is not mine or someones character and aslong as they throw credits somewhere. Characters are personal.

Besides this particular character isn't very unique, one can EASILY go on SL and buy themselves the aventity shark, she has the default hair as is even. The only thing I've done differently is attach paws as her hands&feet and I have custom modeled headphones on her. I don't mind if someone had a similar character if it just lacked those two small details, or maayybe even just the headphones since the paws were free items.

Also don't forget that ponies aren't just one random doods characters from the internet, they're a giant show and everyone knows they're not some random doods characters to begin with, therefor misunderstandings wont happen.
