Here is my LARP character from Final Haven ( http://www.finalhavenlarp.com )
Quen is a human, born as the elder son of a farmer who owned a bit of farm land and was ready to inherit it when he decided to take up the kingdom's offer to accept local peasantry into the military. With flights of fantasy, he left his family behind, giving up his rights to the land to become a ranger! Unfortunately for him, he failed... miserably. With nothing to fall back on, he began taking up jobs where he could in all sorts of labor. He failed at everything but being a general craftsman. He learned metals smithing and was apprenticing as a blacksmith when he was kicked in the leg by a horse. It shattered his leg and he was ill for a long time. He eventually recovered with a permanent limp and destroyed self-esteme. Eventually he found employment as the caretaker of a Nobelman's Summer estate and was in service of Lord Malcom for 10 years. That's when there was a terrible cataclysm where his time and 50 years in the future were thrust into one place... the building he'd cared for so carefully and took great pride in was occupied by strangers who brought with them great magical troubles. Eventually he begrugingly gave up trying to get them to leave and after some time was attacked on a road and died. When he mysteriously returned to life he had no memory of the time these people had been here and with circumstances at the time, was more comfortable with them being there and much friendlier to them.
... but all good things come to an end and a few years after that an attack by Elves burned his beloved building. He petrified himself with a potion he had brewed some time before and expected to exist as stone for eternity within the remains of his Lodge. But fate had other plans for him and he was rescued from the ashes and brought to the new camp created by survivors of the Night of Burning Skulls.
Since then, Quen has become a bit deranged. His love for the building he took pride in became twisted with an "understanding" of fire... no longer just something he tended, he now sees fire in a far more mystical and personal sense. He's a bit nutty, but even with that, Quen is still a Master at creating and repairing items, as well as alchemy.
Grumblings and expecting everyone to betray him and to fail again, he conducts his duties as any good man should. He keeps his word and rarely makes a promise unless he intends to keep it until death.
Quen's constant companion is his sturdy walking stick that also doubles as his fire-tending stick, and can sometimes be heard talking to the fire.
... I created the character when I went to visit some friends at a LARP. I figured I'd just be helpful and tend the fires and was all-but-forced to wear a flammable tunic and figured if I was going to catch fire, it was going to be "in character". (Anyone from Michigan ever been to Bertha-Brock in Ionia? 2 large fireplaces and a fire-pit!) I loved tending fires and had a great time going through a cord of wood each event... but we outgrew the camp and the new place isn't so hot for my interest in fires. I've sort of semi-retired the character and haven't played him since the "escape".
