Endless Realms bestiary - Spectre
Bestiary artwork for Endless Realms, a D&D-like "pen and paper" fantasy RPG I'm working for.
The art director wanted a kind of shadowy, ghostly bogeyman, essentially seemingly formless and indistinguishable from shadow until it's too late. So I figured the creature has a wing-like cloak of shadow it "wears" around itself, then spreads them when it's ready to strike, revealing its creepy sickle arms and a toothy grin ;P

I'm not sure! I imagine he'd probably have a weakness to it, although it might not banish/destroy him outright, depending on how powerful he is. I feel like he'd overpower natural light, have some resistance to it, but magical light would hurt him? Not sure if that makes any sense, haha.
*nods* Yeah, I feel like he could survive just fine by lurking in the shadows by day, and being able to spread unnatural/magical darkness about himself to some extent to make a bigger "safe zone" for himself, but being directly targeted by pure light or magical light would probably be no good for him :b
Well, it's a magic world where wizards of old have merged their consciousness with the environment, and some lost and tore apart reality, so it was already kinda broken, but then some evil god invaded or something (which was totally our fault >_>) and the sun eventually stopped rising after the high priest of the sun god was murdered because we didn't track him down in time... So, the sun might still be there, just... for all we know it might be gone forever now :V
Good thing my character can survive comfortably in temperatures as low as -40 and no longer needs to eat or drink (or breathe) :V

lol, it's actually a pretty great campaign. It's a kind of horror/mystery campaign, vaguely Cthulhu-esque but fantasy. Set in a semi post apocalyptic fantasy world after a wizard war screwed up reality, we started off being tricked by a powerful demon into releasing his brethren from a sealed artifact, and since then, even more things have been going wrong than usual :b
As for me not needing to eat, drink, or breathe and other weird things, it's because I took a vow of poverty in penance, which means I can own no material belongings, but as I level I get more and more supernatural abilities and bonuses.

How come light is always good and dark evil?
Light Good - Dark Bad:
1. Light allows you to see what's hidden in darkness.
2. Evil people use darkness and dark forces.
3. Evil lurks in the dark so you can't see it.
4. Light = Purity & Darkness = Evil
5. Fairy Tales, Folklore, etc say light is good
Dark Good - Light Bad:
1. Light can blind you to the truth, which it hides.
2. Darkness shelters and protects people from visibility.
3. Illusions (not of the mind) and mirages are caused by light. As in light shows you what it wants you to see.
4. Light = Exposure & Darkness = Safety
5. Darkness is truly natural and existed before creation.
6. Dark: Just because you can't see it, doesn't make it bad.
And I'm still thinking of more to add . . .
