Eee, here it is, the YCH I auctioned off a few weeks ago all finished up! Our heros are set to go into the dungeon, fight some baddies, and hopefully take on the huge master dragon! Lets hope they don't all end up taking dirt naps.
On a side note, I was talking with a roommate recently about how ridiculous it is to have a party of characters fighting huge creatures (like say giants, or dragons.) Realistically, one little swipe of his wings or claws would have them squished with internal bleeding. To put it another way, think about how hard it would be to take on another human of your same size. Even with multiple people, successfully stabbing something as big as a dragon to death doesn't seem all that plausible, especially since you couldn't really reach anything vital. Magic might have a better time.
That said, it's all fantasy anyway and also super cool so in the end it doesn't matter. XD Fun conversation though. :)

So far I've only managed to play a few short-lived play-by-post games on some forums.
I've been thinking of starting to play live games with an online group and even GM some games myself (I have a lot of campaign ideas). Unfortunately, I'm terrified that I might mess something up, and this fear has been holding me back so far. :(
If you ever try another game system, I would highly recommend GURPS. Its core mechanics are very easy to learn but it also has a lot of complexity to it (in a good way), and you can pretty much play any kind of game that you can imagine with it. :D
What I especially love, though, are the myriad of sourcebooks, most of which are so well-written and well-researched that I could honestly recommend them to anyone who writes fiction. :3

Oh, fascinating, I've never heard of GURPS before today. Seems really promising - I'll have to get my hands on some books and see what I think about it. :D
I COMPLETELY understand on the scared to GM front. I'm exactly the same way - thinking on the fly, dealing with sassy players, making fun NPCs (and in my case, roleplaying them) are all things that seem really daunting. Not to mention making sure the fights are a challenge but not a party-killer.
However, if you ever DO set up a live game I'd be totally interested in joining. :D

Pretty much this. Monster Hunter handles this fairly well, but a lot of games just have the dragon stand there and let you wail on their face without crushing or biting you.
Also do keep in mind that dragons are frequently confronted in their own cramped lairs which sometimes doesn't give the dragon much room at all to move around, which can give the human or human sized people a small advantage... but overall it should be much harder to kill a dragon than it is frequently depicted in media.

I'd love to run a campaign where I set my party against a dragon, then have them get thwomped royally until the town comes in with like, huge ass netting and special dragon bolts that they then use to take care of it properly. I feel like my players would not appreciate that as much as I would though, heh.
It depends on how you want to DM it. If you're going full D&D, dragons are supposed to be pretty damn smart and powerful mages on top of everything else, so killing a dragon should be... well, just in my opinion, almost impossible. A dragon's lair should be well fortified, Tucker's Kobolds throughout, and there should be full backup plans up to and including the dragon just teleporting away and collapsing/melting the cavern on top of the party.
But then, that's not any fun, is it? I just feel like anything less and the dragon isn't really trying, and in life or death situations a creature as greedy, self-centered and vain as a dragon should be pulling out all the stops when it comes to their own survival.
