I got to fly with this!
I got to fly a glass cockpit Archer. And you know what, glass cockpits are over rated! It was kinda cool but there are drawbacks, in particular the fact that whith this setup if the main screen goes down you lose Nav 1, the HSI, Turn Coordinator, VSI, and primary tachometer, partial panel was a pain in the ass.

There should be a switch that lets you use the MFD in place of the PFD, should it go inop. That way, you don't lose all those instruments. I fly the G1000 in C-172s that I rent from my local FBO. It looks like a similar system, but I do see differences. I really love it, but I always bring a hand-held GPS just in case there is that ever-feared complete electrical failure (Oh, don't say those words!). I actually know a guy who lost the entire electrical due to a lightning strike in an Archer. Glass panel is supposed to be fool-proof in that it has a redundant battery and everything is isolated with buses and breakers. But I'll tell you now-- It doesn't matter how many buses or how many breakers you have. If you get struck by lightning, assuming you're still airborne with the prop spinning, you are going to have to contend with having ZERO electrical. If you're in the clouds IFR with such a failure you'll have a compass, airspeed indicator, and attitude indicator, with no means to navigate other than dead reckoning (emphasis on the dead)... can't exactly shoot an approach with that! If you have a hand held GPS or radio, then you have something to go by. Otherwise, you may be watching the hands on your watch to count down how much fuel you think you've got. And hopefully you'll have enough time to contemplate your life.
Well I'm pretty well used to the old sixpack setups that these new fangled glass cockpits mess with my mind :P
Like these are the panels I'm used to.

Yep. I got my private pilot in one like these. I switched schools and now I'm flying G1000's (for cheaper, actually!). My instrument check ride is next week; wish me luck! G000's are AMAZING for instrument work. Set the AP to NAV and it practically does all the work for you, loading the next waypoint as it comes up! It even shows holding pattern entries. Remarkable engineering went into it. And I wouldn't trade the moving traffic map for anything! Nothing compares to hearing a computerized voice call "Traffic!" moments before a near miss. Ahh, yep.
