Although the popular notion that the Valor alliance formed in the previous Lastwar, the reality is bitterly remembered by some. In order to broker a cease fire the newly formed alliance of specian nations chose to make sacrifices of some of their members. With annexation of certain borderland regions the Antheran state sought to strategically protect itself.
Some of the fiercest fighting had been along the network of incredibly well built road systems of the Scarbryush which became colloquially known as 'The Road War'. The inhospitable land scape surrounding the roads made it a continual low intensity conflict which over time bleed the unstoppable advances of the Sturmacht into countries beyond the blighted land scape.
It also bled the Scyb past the point of breaking. The sparsely populated landscape held few cities, and those quickly became bombed out ruins and road stops for Antheran soldiers on their way to more important places. The Scyb became outcasts and refugees in their own country. They mattered so little internationally to a world facing it's own problems that those that could not escape, they faced their enemies who hunted them to relative extinction.
The Scyb were lean black haired Kanin that the Antheran soldiers towered over. Their fur was wiry in comparison to the Antheran's prideful well kept appearance. The Scyb fought when and where they could make it hurt, The Antheran had their eye on distant trophies. They hated and killed one another in the broken tangle of ferrous thorns until the ceasefire in the closing days of the last war that made the Scarbryush a demilitarized zone.
What few Scyb were left were forcibly evacuated, those that remained were never heard from again. Even though the Scarbryush was never recognised as a member of the Valor Alliance, they were traded as a bargaining chip. As a price for their concession of setting aside doomsday weapons, Antheran swallowed the trade cities through annexation in order to secure the protection of it's own borders, and the rest of the abandoned roads and wilderness became a ghost land.
Now decades later most Scyb are descendants of refugees, a very large portion of which are cur breed. As refugee camps are a primary source of recruitment Scyb have been singled out for a special vengeance contracts. Even though they tend to be outcast even among refugee groups any Scyb that can pass basic competency tests can draw from armory as much ammunition and explosives as they can bodily carry and get a one way trip to the vicinity of their ancestral homeland.
Although this is technically in violation of the cease fire, the contract is fulfilled in such a way that the Scyb has no official status inside a mercenary company of any kind. Additionally the fact that none of those that enter the Scarbryush are heard from again suggest that the Antheran are only participating through technicalities as well.
