The American counterpart to the Little Egret, the Snowy Egret was once a target for their fluffy plumes in the use of women’s hats. They are now protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, thus, populations have stabilized. Snowy Egret’s shuffle their feet through shallow water to obtain prey, which includes all manner of fish, insects, crustaceans, and more, and also participate in ‘dip-fishing’, which is the act of flying with feet hovering over the water.
