Normally, it's just best to stay out of it as best as possible. If someone pressures you to make an opinion, just follow thru with what you think is best. Sometimes you just have to go "I'm sorry, X, but I have to agree with Y on this one." It's never right to pick sides on a battle, normally no one wins, the only thing they can do is to come to an agreement or just agree to not bring it up again.

I wouldn't take this particular strip seriously. It's more a character piece. In that Elliot is quite a character.
