Jar-Bag'Dul. A name that had made many a brave knight tremble in his boots, and for good reason. The troll had been terrorizing the kingdom for generations, and made a point of wearing the skulls of every hero who had been, "destined" to defeat him. When Bag'Dul had begun to venture into even the heart of the Queen's lands, she decided that enough was enough.
Despite the urging of her soothsayer and court wizard, she chose at random one warrior who looked to have what it took, trusting to luck what fate had failed. The one she chose, a scale-folk by name of Stelares, agreed to go out to where Jar-Bag'Dul had last been seen and challenged him to single combat. Stelares, who had no magical or legendary weapons, or the backing of destiny. Only the will to stop the troll from hurting anyone ever again.
Their's was a clash that the bards were careful to observe, and even the cloudy sky parted, as if the gods themselves had some interest in what happened. None of that mattered to the warrior, too busy dodging swings from the troll's fell club. Finally, when what looked to be the opertune moment appeared, Stelares danced around behind the troll, leapt up onto his head, and drove one of his twin blades into the monster's skull, piercing the one thing a troll couldn't regenerate: it's brain.
The last that anyone saw of Stelares was him resting atop the corpse of Jar-Bag'Dul, tired and cleaning his swords. When riders came to bring him back to the Queen, all they found was a note where he had sat, with a message for her eyes only. What it read she does not say, but she looks forward to seeing that warrior again one day...
