i just wanted to show the transition. this was drawn while i was visiting friends, took about three hours to do the pencil work then ink. it was a bit rushed but turned out ok enough for ink quality. the pose is decent but the anatomy is a bit off here and there though i am rusty so it is to be expected. the color was a simple under color with very minor shading. it was a bit tricky as i went under the original art and the quality of the image was limited as i snapped it from my phone not a nice scanner. though after a few tricks to make things stand out just a tad, it manages to hide enough of the flaws which are easily more visible at higher resolution sizes.
As is always the way of things, my art always looks better when viewed at small sizes but when enlarged to show the actual detail i drew, the poor quality of my lines and lack of line weight, fat colors ( if any) or poor shading... shows like a sour thumb. this is why most artists tend to shrink their art or use vector line programs to smooth out their lines through hours of digital work. so i put this up for defense..... not bad for 5 hours of work.. imperfections and all it is rather decent. now if only i could do the same with much better anatomy...
thus this is my mission ... study study study... and in time it will get better. but i haven't been drawing much at all in five years so i have plenty of catching up to do. good news is that i have found the FUN that i seemed to have lost for a variety of reasons, most involving my post-animation school blues. i am happiest when i am drawing and writing but writing does not yield nice things i can show folks along the way.

yes i like to post one of these now and then. i have such a rough start that sometimes i need to remind myself what i can do with something when i see it through ink and color. though i use many short cuts to cut time spent on works of art. i imagine what i can do in the future when i hone the "long process" more. yet i want to do web comic stuffs which require speed. the key?... simplified art work style...i mean i can put tons of detail but i need to simplify my characters. they dont need to look like calvin and hobbes though ( dam it now i just pictured rook as a stuffed toy like hobbes XD). there is a groovy book i am reading called "understanding comics" by Scott McCloud. it talks all about things like simplification
