Bubba - Watch Your Step (Pg 1/6) [WARNING: Hard Crush]
Dated 16/03/2015
As a giant, Bubba does not take kindly to 'ants' trying to tell him what to do or making fun of his size. However, the heavy duck has found a way to use their words - and his weight - against them...

OK. Before I - or you - go any further, let's make this clear:
This is a hard crush comic. It's violent. And gory. There are no safe 'alternative' versions - it is what it is. Violent crushing has always had a place among the themes explored in my artwork, but while it remains one of my biggest kinks, I can only give you my word that I in no way condone, enjoy or carry out any such acts of violence in real life. Ultimately, this is just a piece of artwork, so the message is the same as ever - If you don't like, don't look.
Now, onto the comic. And boy, has this been a long time in coming.
How long, you might ask? Let me put it this way: When I started the very first sketches for this comic, Apple had just released the iPhone 4, Instagram hadn't yet been launched, and there was no such thing as 'bronies'.
...Summer 2010. Almost five years ago.
I know what you're thinking. How the hell has it taken that long? Well the truth is, it hasn't. But summer 2010 was when I first started sketching a comic idea involving a nameless fat duck ruthlessly squashing a little one into pulp. And that nameless fat duck went on to become Bubba.
I came up with the idea, did a few sketches, then I left it. Then a few months later I thought of a few more panels I could add to the story and tried drawing a bit more. Then I left it again. Then I came up with yet more panels. And bit by bit, from summer 2010 to summer 2014, I ended up with a collection of sketches that had grown from a few horny scribbles to a whole storyline.
But there was a problem. Four years is a long time. Long enough for my art style to change, and for Bubba's design to change. Indeed, by 2014, my very first sketch of Bubba seemed hardly recognisable as Bubba at all.
Deciding that enough was enough, and thinking that it was probably about time I did something with this long-running idea, I sat down last autumn and started the entire thing again, from scratch. Every single panel, redrawn, updated to try and reflect my current style and my current design for Bubba, who by now had been introduced to the fandom and whose appearance was pretty well developed in my mind. Some of the panels were closely based upon the old sketches, but most were complete revamps. And by late October 2014, I had all the finished drawings for a 28-panel comic - longer than any I'd ever previously completed for the fandom. Since then I've spent time here and there colouring the panels, shading them and adding some enormously lazy backgrounds... until at last, the damn thing was finally done.
I know. All that for a crush fetish comic. What the hell's the matter with me...
I suspect it's unlikely I'll ever bother with another project of this magnitude. The truth is I hate doing comics. I hate the workload. I hate the need to maintain consistency between panels. And I hate the fact that no matter how much planning I seem to do, it always ends up being an enormous battle to lay panels out into coherent, organised pages. If I'm honest with myself, I really don't have the time or motivation for really big projects like this anymore.
However, I wanted to get this one done. I was telling people about it years ago. It was occupying a slot in the first volume of my Great Unfinished Collection from May 2011 (square 8, to be precise). And it seemed ludicrous to me that, until I uploaded 'Webbed Worship' a couple of months ago, there were still no proper fetish pictures of Bubba in my gallery, despite the character having existed for four years.
This comic probably looks a bit like a combination of various other stomp/crush pieces I've drawn in the past. Some of it is reminiscent of that old '3, 2, 1, Crunch!' comic I did with Rexar eight years ago. And the whole thing is quite similar to 'Mike - Duck'd', which was practically like a non-violent, pre-Bubba predecessor.
I won't go into the specifics of the panels. Mercifully most of them weren't too difficult to draw, largely because Bubba's style is permanently cartoony - demonstrated best by the inexplicable presence of teeth in many of his expressions. But some of the images were absolute nightmares. Panel 11 (or Page 3, which it occupies exclusively) was one of the most awkward, given I went through about half a dozen different shapes of the foot before finally settling with the one that is presented therein. Worse still were the two 'under floor' panels (19 and 22) which involved a convoluted process of tracing, comparing shapes and then combining multiple separate drawings together - not to mention all the gratuitous detail.
To reiterate, this comic is violent. There's blood, there's innards, there's graphic description and all the talk that suggests Bubba is fully aware of the deadly nature of what he is doing, and very much enjoying it in the process. The first three pages are relatively tame, hence why I've left them with general ratings. But the second half of the comic is where all the crushing happens, and I've rated those three pages accordingly. So if you're viewing with a non-mature/adult account and can't see the second half of the comic, that's why.
Anyway, for anyone who was aware of this project and has been waiting years for it, at last, here it is. And for anyone who is repulsed by this sick crap and yearns for me to draw something less twisted, don't worry - there'll be nicer/tamer/more conventionally sexy stuff to come.

Goodness. When I logged onto here on Monday morning I didn't see anything that caught my eye. Then when I logged in today, I saw that you uploaded that first sketch you did of Bubba and then I read that you uploaded a 6-page crush comic of him the day before. It's a good thing I log on here after I finish my work otherwise I would've been distracted all day. But still, the fact that I didn't see this the day you uploaded this left me dumbfounded. This definitely looks like a long time in the making.
I've always wanted to know, what's the font you use in your comics?
I've always wanted to know, what's the font you use in your comics?
It's varied over the years. At some point I saved a couple of font styles which I labelled things like 'speech' or 'action text' to try and maintain some consistency. I think the speech is all Calibri and the noises/expressions are Showcard Gothic or something.
Strange - the submissions didn't appear in your inbox? Mind you, I think FA's been behaving a bit funky of late - I noticed all the fuzzy times almost appeared to be in reverse earlier in the week, like the newest comments were showing up as 'half an hour ago' yet the oldest comments were showing up as 'a few minutes ago'!
