If the phone is within reach...which is more likely than a camera. It really is amazing the quality of pic that comes out of these newer "smart" phones. This pic was taken with one of the first Canon EOS Digital Rebels. My other digital camera is a Canon Power Shot S80. Both are ancient by today's standards but they take damn nice photos. My first 35mm SLR was a Mamiya/Sekor 1000 DTL that traveled all over the US and half of Canada both in an 18-wheeler and on a motorcycle. My second, and still my favorite is Canon's AE-1. If Canon made a digital version of it and kept the controls the same, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I rarely missed a shot with that camera. Ah well.
As a teenager in school we had a photography course for classic black white photography. We learned how to develop the film and how to use the magnifier to create the photos from the negative. It was really fascinating to see how the image appeared on the photopaper during the developement process. We also learned how to do simple photomanipulations ;). Nowadays I am doing this with photoshop.
