I have always wanted one of these guys! I always been worried about how to take care of them though so he or she would last me a good long while. I raised a rabbit for about 11 years before he sadly passed away in our garden, and I like Lizards are way different then rabbits, so any tips?
Well they live roughly about 10 years average but I've met some slightly older ones before from breeders that I have met at reptile shows. Research your substrate and what it takes to maintain it. If you do a loose bedding I would personally recommend that you tong feed live food to them [crickets, dubia roaches, superworms, mealworms etc dusting them several times a week with calcium] to reduce them ingesting any bedding if they go to get the food and miss it. They aren't too graceful. Tank sizes for babies/juveniles are 20gallon longs, and for a full grown bearded or two, a 40 gallon breeder tank or bigger. ^^ And offer them veggies from the get go at a young age, especially dark leafy greens. [Do not offer iceburg lettuce, its just water, or spinach, can cause a calcium deficiency]. Also make sure to get proper lighting that heats the tank well on one side and leaves the other side cool [put a basking area under the heat lamp] and make sure you have a UVB bulb as well [helps bind calcium to their bones so they don't get a bone disease called MBD].
