“After this I saw in the night visions, and behold, a fourth beast, terrifying and dreadful and exceedingly strong. It had great iron teeth; it devoured and broke in pieces and stamped what was left with its feet. It was different from all the beasts that were before it, and it had ten horns. I considered the horns, and behold, there came up among them another horn, a little one, before which three of the first horns were plucked up by the roots. And behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking great things.” – Daniel 7:7-8 (ESV)
The fourth beast in Daniel’s vision was not presented or symbolized by any particular animal and was explained far more explicitly than the other three. It represents the Roman Empire and corresponds with the “legs of iron” in Nebuchadnezzar’s dream (Daniel 2:32). Erasing all traces from the kingdom before it, Rome was on many levels, different, diverse, and far crueler from the kingdoms before it indeed. Nero, the guy who deep-fried Christians in boiling oil, came into power here.
This is where things become scary…
Part of this beast’s prophecy has not come to pass even in our present age. In Daniel 7:11-28 you will find that the prophecy of this same beast extends as far as the return of Jesus Christ and the Day of Judgment (which obviously hasn’t occurred yet). Simply put, we’re still living in the era of this prophecy.
Interestingly enough, the influence of ancient Rome can still be seen today.
Now the ten horns correspond with the “ten toes of clay and iron” in Nebuchadnezzar’s dream meaning 10 kings will rise from it. However, three kings will be subdued in rise of another one. This last horn represents, what we Christians like to call, The Anti-Christ, for this kingdom will stand until the Last Day.
Still being part of the 4th beast, it is possible that the coming Anti-Christ will have some sort of connection with ancient Rome rising up to what could be a kind of “revived" Roman Empire.

I agree with you that we're still living in the era of that prophecy.
I've looked at a book called Trial, Tribulation and Triumph: Before, During, and After Anti-Christ by Desmond Birch. It gives a list of a future history of the world based on Catholic Church-approved prophecies, and talks about how this will play out in the future.
According to prophecy, this Age of the Church will end with an Angelic Pope and a Great Catholic Monarch, who will usher in a new Christian world order that resembles the Kingdom of Heaven to the greatest degree possible for sinful man. I suspect, based on evidence of prophecy and trying to combine them together, along with what has happened since and working it through logically, that the Angelic Pope is alive now somewhere in the world, but he isn't the Pope yet. Pope Francis is not him because the Angelic Pope will be elected in exile after his predecessor is assassinated in exile in wartime, which obviously didn't happen to Pope Benedict XVI, who is still alive.
I don't know if the Great Catholic Monarch is alive today or not but I suspect he will be a Spanish Bourbon, likely a son of Luis Alfonso, Duke of Anjou (second cousin to King Felipe VI of Spain). It will not be Duke Luis Alfonso himself because I suspect it will be years before the Great Catholic Monarch comes to power, and he will come to power young. Luis Alfonso is not young enough anymore for that. At present he has twin sons, Louis and Alphonse, who will turn five years old on May 28 this year. I don't know if one of them will be the Great Catholic Monarch or if he hasn't been born yet, but we'll see when they grow up. At any rate, this Great Catholic Monarch will become King of France and later Holy Roman Emperor, the ultimate monarch on Earth--the revived Roman Empire you speak of.
But then after the last French-speaking Holy Roman Emperor dies in the Holy Land, his Empire will split into the prophesied ten kingdoms. Later, a powerful but evil military commander will destroy seven of those kingdoms, leaving three who will resist and remain. Those are the three who will be defeated by the Anti-Christ.
God bless!
