alright, seems that I was somewhat mistaken, but from what I just read it seems that for most mammals the chords naturally snap when the baby comes out, which is why I thought some didn't have one like this. But I was thinking, that chord is attached to some VERY sensitive anatomy on both sides, bungee birth doesn't look very pleasant at all...
Oh yeah go back and watch the first season over, Apple Jack is subtly but significantly racist / xenophobic.

One fic had a similar bit of fun: Twilight has been taking care of a foal[1] and Spike gets interrogated at one point by the rest of the Mane 6. He describes things as "messy", Rainbow's reaction is "why would it be... oh, right: ground ponies."
