If it was 17, the first four stops cancel out, and the last is negative, and with initial number of passengers being ten, the negative makes the total less than ten, and figuring that the driver must be old enough to drive, I add ten to that.

Or if it was 23, I add the total number of passengers that got on at all the first four stops, which is the same number that got off, then add the number that got off at the last stop. This is also the same number that got off the bus in total.

Final answer: 23 years old.
