My blood's always been a bit iffy 'bout me. Never knew my mamma's folks... guess they was ashamed of her fer havin' me outta wedlock, and after she died seein' me was just too painful a reminder. I wasn't what they had left, I was the cause fer what they lost, far as they was concerned. My dad's people? A'sides him, didn't none of them wanted t' accept that I was related to 'em. Like they was denyin' the paternity he accepted.
These boys right here though? They been with me through the toughest shit ever since we met. I guess our bonds is kinda like... lemme put it this way. We started off like graphite. Carbon, ya know? Then, as the shit started really weighin' heavy, an' our bonds was tested... turned out all that pressure went and turned that carbon to diamond.
There's a reason I just call the people's left alive related to me "blood." Because they ain't family, not really. My family's right here.
