Here's Ron and his porcupine pal, J.D. (from my novel "Family Tails"), out on the deck at the front of the house. J.D. is happily munching away on his goodies -- typically chopped baby spinach leaves and diced apples, though this time he has an added treat of a celery stick.
I drew this using a 0.5 mm mechanical pencil with HB lead, a 6B graphite stick, various blending and shading tools, on Georgia-Pacific "Everyday Copy & Print" paper.Art, characters, & story © 2013-2015 Ronald J. Lebeck (that's me).

Ron met J.D. out in the yard one day, when J.D. was still a young porcupine (babies are called "porcupettes"). Ron's ability to get along with animals -- and a lot of patience -- eventually won J.D's trust. J.D. is still very much a wild porcupine, though he has become rather friendly with Ron by the time the story takes place.
