Low resolution? Because the higher the resolution is the more you're able to detail. I find that i work quicker with lower resolution because it's impossible to add tiny details due to the lower number of pixels.
If the goal was to make a " finished, polished piece " i'd probably make the image 2K pixels at the widest/highest point at least.
