Bouncing at the Ziggurat isn't a safe occupation, thus the armor. Note the tattoo on his ear: this is the ship's insignia of the trading starship he used to serve on.
Yellowstripe is a nickname, not an actual kzin "name". Low ranking kzin are typically named after their occupation or given a nickname until they earn a real "name."

I am starting to get really curious about this whole notion that people have only ever seen male Kzinti. It makes me wonder if the kzinrettes are protected for some reason or if they are just a lot fewer in number (e.g. 1 female is born for every ~100 males), which would explain a lot about why there is such a heavily stratified social hierarchy among the males. Don't feel obligated to answer this. The writing on this series of pieces has been superb, so, if you plan to go into detail on this later, it probably makes the most sense for me to wait until then.
Maybe it's just me, but seeing the zoomed out thumbnail for this made me think he was wearing a mesh sports jersey before I read about it being chainmail. oops. Come to think of it, drawing chainmail must be really difficult. The digitigrade legs are also a nice touch.

Kzinti females are nonsapient, or capable of a few words at wost, due to genetic engineering performed on them many thousands of years ago by the male kzin. This is one of several very stupid things they did in their history. These days females are the property of high ranking males and doled out to omales that earn a Name. Male cubs are separated from their mothers as soon as they are weaned and it is likely a low ranking male like Yellowstripe has never even seen one, other than pictures. On the other hand he may have been rewarded with conjugal visits a time or two but in any event he lusts after them and they are simply not available.
