Silver-level painting commission for
ruffbcagnus. I'd never heard of this sport before - apparently it's a Colorado speciality - but it looks AWESOME XD Especially if you love cute donkeys! I recommend Googling "burro racing" if you're curious :3

Dunno why, but this image invoked this image in my mind (well it's not the exact image, but it's from the scene I was thinking of:

Beautiful picture, and interesting historical background as well
I would say there's probably one way he could get that guy more cooperative that doesn't involve cruelty, but according to the wiki page, veterinarians can inspect the burros 30 minutes afterwards, and they might find out

To all the furs that are getting it wrong.
A burro is NOT a mule!
A mule is a cross between a Jack Donkey and a Mare horse.
Next thing.
There is no such word in the English language as burro.
Burro is Spanish and not English. People that use English as a first language should use Donkey or Ass and not use burro.
Now that I satisfied my really big pet peeves of the wrong names used for us donkeys.
This really cruel practice of forcing us donkeys to carry a heavy load over a great distance for no gain for us donkeys should be ended. Us donkeys should be left in the fields grazing the tasty weeds and the people can carry their own heavy loads since they are the ones wanted to be moved. All us donkeys want to move is the grass from the field to our tummies.
Oh by the way donkey you should stomp on the otters tail. This will gain two things. First the otter will stop pulling in that rope and allow you to run away and second one can bray in great mirth at watching the mean cruel otter dance around in pain holding his tail in his paws screaming.

I love all the expression in this piece, especially the burro. And yes, Burro races are a thing here, just up the mountain in a little old mining town called Cripple Creek. Burros are treated with a funny kind of reverence around here, since they were so useful and key to the early gold mining operations. There's a casino up there named the Brass Ass, big bronze donkey statue in the front lobby.

If you haven't checked out Leadville, you should. There's a TON of history there, and the town goes to lengths to preserve its heritage. If you can ever make it up there for the Boom Days celebration, I'd highly recommend it. They have mining games, gunfights in the streets, a killer parade, burro races, lots of people dressed up in authentic clothing, etc. etc. My family owns a couple mining claims just outside of town, so we've been going up every few weekends during the three months a year it's accessible to go camping (roads to our land close with the first snow), and I just can't get enough (heck, it inspired this commission!). I'll admit, it is a small town, but there's lots to do near by, too - Buena Vista is only a short drive away, as is Aspen via Independence Pass. There's also the fish hatchery, and Turquoise Lake which are practically in town. There's lots of off-road trails if you're into Jeeping, and it's also a well-known area for biking as the town hosts several mountain biking races every year and has LOTS of bike trails. There's also a lot of white-water rafting in the area... In town there are some museums, the opera hall, original western saloon, an antique mall and I'm sure there's more I don't even know about.... the best part? no casinos!!! But be careful, it's America's highest incorporated town at nearly 10,200 feet, so bring a good set of lungs!
I have a friend who wants to try a burro run... but then HE runs... which is something I usually avoid :)
Unfortunately for his grand plan, the donkey he came upon is on the small side and was locked in a barn for 5 years :( While the donkey is now MUCH happier and healthier (he has his OWN barn now, and he can go in and out as he likes), I don't think he feels inspired to travel west and run up and down mountains. Call it a hunch!
Very well done drawing :)

Aww! Well, I'm glad your friend was able to turn that donkey's life around :3 Perhaps an alternate donkey can be found for the mountain trek, hehe! And I'm with you... I'd be more into the idea if it was a "leisurely burro walk" rather than a burro run. I guess the donkeys would probably agree :P
