I have no clue to the truth of it but it is just a story and just following the typical fiction surrounding dolls and voodoo. Common theme in many a horror and action story. One of my favorite animated shorts involves voodoo dolls. You can see it here.

I'm studying Vodou culture right now in my Anthropology of religions class. I have met with several Vodou practitioners and all of them have said there is no such thing as a "voodoo doll" -_- ergo you missed my point in total. This comic is not accurate. I was drawn in by it at first but then i realized the person just went off of hollywood fiction. its distasteful :/ coming from an anthropologist point of view of course
I do appreciate the input although unfortunately the story is completed and the pages drawn. They are simply being shaded. I don't really have any luxury at this point to make changes. As you said this is closer to Hollywood fiction and not being an anthropologist or a scientist I'm going to make mistakes to facts whether it be magic, culture, history, genetics, scientific theory etc. The only thing I can do is be a bit more careful in the future. I couldn't even change voodoo to witchcraft as then I'd run into problems with the facts regarding Wiccan. The comic is not really meant to be completely serious as seen by many of the objects in the storefront at the beginning of the strip and of course depending on where the Taur Tales universe is set the history and even the laws of physics can be different than our real world Earth. In any case, I learned something and it forced me to do a bit of web stalking. I also found little fact on voodoo dolls with the exception of Louisiana voodoo and in that case they were not used for cursing people. Quite the opposite, they were used to try to bring good fortune and healing to people. At least... So the article says. As writers you often run into issues with this kind of hindsight and even the big name writers have difficulty with getting facts straight in their stories. Or worse... Hollywood just blatantly disregards the facts and changes it anyways. In this case it was just something I missed.
This is a story about a world where taurs exist and freely associate with humans and magical milk can transform them... and someone is worried about the accuracy of the portrayal of Vodun? Hell, call it a magical beanie baby for crying out loud... maybe in that world that IS how "voodoo" works. it's a literary conceit at this point, not a historical recounting of a real world faith.
I was asking sharkguy01.
Yes, wickerman is a kind of effigy. But I was talking about the general idea that action on an object that looks like something or contains parts of something will also affect that "something". The things similar to so-called "Voodoo dolls" have been in use for millennia in Eastern Africa, Europe, Japan, probably in many more places. I asked if there's anything similar in Voodoo.
