This is Tri State Warbird's P-40M that is under restoration following a hard landing a few years ago. Tri State's P-40 is an actual combat veteran with the Royal New Zealand Air Force, having shot down one Japanese aircraft during WWII. She was flown during the war by Geoff Fisken, New Zealand's highest scoring ace. After the war she rotted away in a junk yard until being rescued and restored in the 1960's.
Delivered to Tri State in 2008, she flew in the original markings of Fisken until powerplant failure forced her to make an emergency landing, severely damaging her wings in the process. The Allison engine had its oil cooler fail in flight, completely destroying the engine. The pilot was (by luck) close enough to the airport to glide in and put her down, but in the process ran off the runway and hit a chain link fence, severely damaging her wing leading edge and left side landing gear. The wings are nearly finished and they're hoping to have her fully restored and back to nominal condition by the end of this year.
