Tolkien´s Nazghul had abilities close to a vampire but not in blood sucking, they were draining live energy out of their victims to refuel their own live energy, because they were bodyless invisible like ghosts, that was the reason why they weared those black hoods and capes. So it sais in a book about the secrets of Middle earth I have got...
So you are right with your guessing in some way^^

maybe tolkien refered to the ancient greek drama effect "deus ex machina" the god out of the machine
if the greek theatre story went to an unsolvable problen, a god (an actor who performed zeuz for example) appeared to solve the problem and sait the final teaching^^

That comes with Eternal´s role as "embodyment of emptyness" he can play any role that is suited to a certain story. And that means he also can be a villain.
And you really wouldn´t think of a blackfured rat with demonic red gloomy eyes being evil during the first impression?

Having loved rats for over half my life, and having had them for pets over the last 5 years? No, I wouldn't think you a villain at all... just misunderstood, like most rats are. But that is how I view the world... With open eyes, open mind, and open heart.
I didn't find you a villain the first we spoke, now, did I?
