As a follow-up to my comic strip "Pogs and Slammers", here's another trendy item from the past that became the subject of one of my gags...
Among popular obsessions during the 1980s were such things as Rubik's Cube (which is making a comeback now), the video game Tetris, and the popular series of "Where's Waldo?" books. The latter item challenged its reader to find the world-traveling title character (who usually wore a red-and-white striped shirt and cap and horn-rimmed eyeglasses) in a variety of intricately-drawn crowd scenes...
"Where's Waldo?" was so popular back then, the book series spawned an animated Saturday morning series, a surprise appearance on a box of a familiar brand of breakfast cereal, and even his own likeness in the form of a canned pasta meal!
But, like the saying goes, "All good things must come to an end", and 'Rob Cat' was one of the first ones to notice the downward spiral of yet another passing fancy...

Here's another fad, but this one I'm GLAD is dead.
Trolls.
You know what I'm talking about.
Not the scary, tusked trolls from Blizzard's games or even the not-really-troll goblins from Troll 2, mind you.
But... the naked, identical facelift patients with omni-chromatic hair.
They had a plastic gem wedged uncomfortably into their navels and their monotonous faces all had the same creepy, unblinking eyes.
I am glad Trolls are dead.
Very, very glad.
