So yeah. My first attempts at painting something. Like for real this time.
I didn't spend a terrible amount of time on this, but it did make for some decent practice. I'm going to try to put some serious time into painting this year, i'd really like to get good at this.

Thank you! I put like, a really unnecessary amount of layers on that owl, haha. But really though, it's really nice for you to say that
I was actually planning to tell you this in a shout earlier, but I, for some reason had a dream involving your character last night. I don't know why of all things, but your Filo Rooke was just there in the same room as me. It's a really faded memory after I woke up, so I can't exactly remember anything specific. But I remember seeing a glimpse of him just standing in the corner of a white brick room with one small white brick support beam in the center. Had the umbrella and everything. Such a strange and oddly specific thing to see in a dream.

Oh man! That's pretty awesome. You're actually the second one to tell me about a dream featuring my character. The first was actually what prompted this piece: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/14612833/
That's some pretty surreal imagery, too. I may have to draw that at some point, haha.
Thanks for sharing. :) That's oddly flattering.

Dude, this is pretty awesome! The texture of the paint on the owl reminds me of wood--more specifically, a cross section of a log that allows you to see the tree's age rings. Do you know the texture I mean? Sorry, it's an oddly specific connection my mind made. I like the realism combined with the solid colors, too--makes me think of propaganda posters.
I originally thought this painting was lackluster and I was hesitant to upload it, but over the passing time yesterday I received a few nice compliments and it gave me a confidence bonor for a couple minutes. I mostly used the fan-brush for that owl after the WIP was done; next time I paint an animal i'll try using a different technique because the fan-brush wasn't the most accurate tool to handle.
But blah, i'm really happy you like it man
As I typed this I was playing with a fly on my monitor by moving my cursor under it's feet.

that's smart. i often don't think of using tools properly. like a fan brush wouldn't occur to me; i'd likely try to paint each streak individually if noone suggest a fan brush to me -.-
wow i've never played with a fly before. i wonder if it knew on any level it was a game.

I've always wanted to learn how to paint, and it's seeing pieces like these that makes me really want to get started already. The interpretable nature of it really appeals to me. =)
It's so easy for things to get watered down, but this kind of thing feels like it has the artist's fingerprints all over it.
^^ Very nice~
