For my first 'photo-op' in April, I have a recent offering for this latest edition of "Throwback Thursday". Back in mid-March, I went to Miami's annual block party, known as "Calle Ocho 2015". (This event takes place on Eighth Street in the city's 'Little Havana' section.)
Having not been there in eight years - and having no car to make the commute from Broward to Miami-Dade County - I'd decided to venture south via several other modes of transportation: mainly, my bicycle (from my Margate condo to the Tri-Rail station in Pompano Beach), a Tri-Rail train, and a Metrorail train... and later for the return trip, a BCT bus with a bike rack on its front. The rest of the commute was on foot, of course.
Once I got to "Calle Ocho 2015", I took advantage of listening to the music (from stages, placed on nearly every other block), dining on the exotic (Latin) food, and grabbing as many free giveaways (for the event's corporate sponsors) as possible!
Near the westernmost end, there was a giveaway concession co-sponsored by Winn-Dixie supermarkets and Kraft Foods (the latter company of which had just recently merged with H.J. Heinz, shortly thereafter). There, I got to sample lots of food products, including grape-flavored Kool-Aid, Ritz crackers, and Miracle Whip (placed atop a ham sandwich portion).
Also featured in this concession (by sheer coincidence) was a tent promoting Tri-Rail (in the hope that more Floridians and visitors to the 'Sunshine State' use their trains in lieu of automobiles on such routes as I-95 and Florida's Turnpike). And to help said promotion, they had enlisted the aid of their canine mascot 'George Green' - a 'fursuit' in the form of a dog in a conductor's uniform!
I couldn't resist this opportunity to have my picture taken with 'George Green'. (And besides, I needed to prove to everyone that I was at "Calle Ocho 2015"!) So, I got one of the other Tri-Rail employees at the tent to use my digital camera to take this 'photo-op'. Of course, I should've told that person to step back a little bit more - otherwise, the dog's head and feet wouldn't have been cut off in the process!
