This was an assignment I did for my Film Scoring class. It is an example of a Sad Dramatic Cue. This scene is from Akeelah and the Bee. I wanted to keep the orchestration very subtle so that the dialogue and sound effects were not obscured. This composition was inspired by the master of sad piano music, Joel Goldsmith. RIP Joel.
A very sad scene, but effective. This is probably one of the saddest pieces I have ever written. Fortunately, it's short. This was composed in Finale 2012 and played back using CineBrass and CineSymphonyLITE.
