One of the more recent additions to Toho's library of kaiju, Megaguirus debuted in, appropriately enough "Godzilla X Megaguirus", which came out in the year 2000. This was also the last time that the "Millenium Series" (1999-2004) would concentrate on providing Godzilla with a new and original opponent.
She's also a rarity in Toho's kaiju roster in that, well, she's a she. Godzilla has crossed paths with VERY few female kaiju.
And oddly enough... they're mostly bugs.
Spawned from prehistoric (Mesozoic) insects, the Meganulon (last seen in the movie "Rodan"), who manage to come to our time through a wormhole created through a weapons test, conducted by the JSDF, involving black holes.
Sensing Godzilla's massive power, the Meganula swarmed the Monster King, despite his best efforts. While many were killed in the process, a few of these prehistoric insects managed to drain some of Godzilla's blood, which they took back to give to their queen, and thus Megaguirus was born.
Considerably larger than her drones, this massive insect only had one thing in mind, acquiring more energy from Godzilla. She proved to be quite the formidable opponent for the Big G, with her ability to reach supersonic speeds while in flight (imagine a hummingbird on steroids), sharp wings capable of cutting through steel, and a nasty stinger on her abdomen-like tail with which she uses to drain her opponents of energy, she had Godzilla on the ropes for a while. Not to mention that she displayed quite the intelligence for a bug.
But nevertheless, Godzilla manages to eventually get the upper-hand, outsmarting her and then obliterating this prehistoric bitch (:P) in true Godzilla fashion.
Sadly her movie didn't do too well at the box office, and Toho resorted to teaming Godzilla up with more familiar foes from then on.
Had originally intended to use this in another drawing, but went in a different direction, thus she's been left hanging ever since. Of Godzilla's most recent (and original) opponents, she has to be one of my favorites.
Hope this looks good.
