The first foe Godzilla faced in the "90's series", following Godzilla 1985. Another female kaiju.
Created using Godzilla DNA (from pieces of Godzilla's skin recovered from the rubble of Tokyo), and that of a rose spliced with the DNA of a scientist's dead daughter. First appearing in the form of a giant mutated rosebud, Biollante soon managed to attract the attention of her "brother" Godzilla, whom she had been "calling to". Their first battle was almost a slaughter, for despite her best efforts, Biollante proved no match for Godzilla's overwhelming power, and the Monster King seemed to have succeeded in killing her, setting the giant rose ablaze.
But this was not to be the end of Biollante, as she returned later on to confront Godzilla, now having mutated into a much larger and far-more formidable foe, in what can best be described as a bizarre mixture between a crocodile, and a thornbush. Swamped by her legions of vines, she and Godzilla resumed their battle. The two titans collided, each managing to wound the other various times through out the fight, Biollante's sheer size dwarfing Godzilla's. Though fierce, (Biollante even tries to take a bite out of the Big G) the battle ends in a virtual draw, with Godzilla (suffering the effects of a bacterial used on him by the JSDF) slowly lumbering back towards the ocean, before collapsing on the shore, the bio-weapon taking it's effect upon his internal systems. Biollante, on the other hand, dissolved into spores, and floated off into space.
Shortly after her deperature, Godzilla rose once more, the water's cool embrace having helped his body recover and fight the bacteria. Exhausted from both battle and illness, Godzilla headed out to sea to recuperate.
And that's all we saw of Biollante. Save for a mention or two in a few of the following movies, as well as a possible role to play in the creation of "SpaceGodzilla" whose own origins are quite convoluted, she hasn't made any subsequent appearances, outside of video games.
Her movie is remembered as one of the best Godzilla movies of all time, specially the 90's series. She made for one of Godzilla's most interesting opponents, as well as the closest thing Godzilla would probably have to a sort've "sister".
Not shown in this picture are the legions of vines she has.
Enjoy.
