Malon awakens one night to a great crash and finds a battle-scarred man with pale skin and lavender hair. Nursing him back to health, the strange, mute man begins helping around the farm after he fully recovers. She soon discovers that they're both lonely, looking for a friend. Malon/Vaati, not a crack fic, Vaati's PoV
~~~~
Vaati is sick and tired of being sealed away over and over. So he tries to leave the fight.
That doesn't work so well for him...or does it?
I just now read this, and I've admittedly only played Four Swords and Minish Cap, out of the three games that had him (though I did read the Adventures manga as a kid), so for all I know he could be less of a dick in Adventures, but he seems too immediately nice.
From what I remember of Vaati in FS and MC (been years since I played the latter), he was essentially a selfish person who became arrogant and power-mad after gaining the dark power, and pretty much did things for the evulz.
To have him be protective Malon in literally the first chapter doesn't feel right. His character could eventually develop in that direction, but that sort of drastic character change usually takes a very long time.
Also, what about Link and Zelda? They presumably know Vaati's still out there, so they'd naturally assume that he's plotting something especially nasty.
Also, I stopped taking it seriously the minute I read "like skinny dipping in a pool of fishhooks"; that sentence sounds like it'd belong in something comedy-oriented (I actually laughed out loud).
Fair enough. I might redo this, actually. I may need a beta reader. :P
EDIT: So I just remembered my "explanation". He was originally, from my understanding, treated like an outcast due to coloration, and when he got ahold of his wish-hat, he decided to fuck up everyone else. His flight from Link was an attempt to give the bird to fate, and he paid for it with a Light Arrow. As for Malon,
...timer -.-
*As for Malon, he was attempting to manipulate her for his own gain, though actually finding kind people was something he didn't expect. And then he learns that Malon is in a similar position to himself. He stands up to them for his benefit as much as hers, at least as he thinks of it.
Though, I should make that clearer.
Well, you know I'm willing to be the beta! :3
I think one thing we need to remember is that Vaati's been a total dick for the three games he was in, so the thing we need to emphasise early on is that he's only using the Ranch as a place to hide; nobody in their right mind would assume that someone working at Lon Lon Ranch would be an ex-Dark Lord on the basis that they're an albino, after all. Plus, he could fake amnesia to avoid being questioned about where he's from, possibly letting Malon name him.
The development from "wolf in sheep's clothing" to "actually good" should take about the length of the entire story.
Also, it's safe to assume that Zelda would have the kingdom combed, so there's yet another thing he'd have to deal with.
I'm pretty sure Rupees aren't glass, they're more like gems, I think. I always wonder how any economy where the currency can be found by cutting grass and smashing rocks could work. XD It's no big deal in a game, but when it comes up in fiction, it's bizarre.
