I have had Shackles designed here for nearly 10 years- long before Eclipse had been thought of.

In regards to the first attempt thing, he was Gerald's first try- not Black Doom's.

Oh, he's the boss from Sonic Adventure 2, as well as the final boss. It's revealed that Biolizard is/was the first ever prototype of ultimate life, but was, well...too unstable :U

Sonic Universe is actually a separate comic series from the actual Archie line. It follows a different story line than the Archie series and is set in a different world- Universe follows the video games.

Just like the Sonic X comics follow the Sonic X cartoon.

Actually the Sonic Universe comics follow a story that isn't the main, in the same universe as the Archie Universe :U
Like The Shadow Saga and Treasure Team Tango from the old world before the whole Ken Penders dispute. As well as Journey to the East, which shows Sonic's adventures with Kahn and Sally instead of showing what's going on back at the village where the Iron Queen is invading. The main comic and SU are both on the same timeline, but usually follow the story of a different character. Save for Mobius 30 years later, The Silver Saga, Scourge: Lockdown, and Pirate Plunder Panic, which take place in different universes/zones

They're different Canons and different Timelines, though. Sonic Universe still follows the Video Game verse, and parallels between canons does not make them linear timelines.

It's a multi-verse thing, which has been proven on more than one occasion to exist in Sonic.

The comics are still within the "Archieverse" on the same planet, within the same timeline, just showing the events of other characters besides Sonic. It's a different universe from the video games, with video game tie-ins, but Sonic Universe and the Archie Sonic comics (other than Sonic X) are within the same Universe. I've been reading the comics ever since the very first one. Even the characters who got their spotlight in a Sonic Universe comic mention their adventures from said comic, sometimes even vice-versa, and said adventures actually impact the core comic. Again, Sonic Universe and StH comics are within the same timeline and universe. There is no parallel. It's all the same. The only thing that has impacted the comic's universe greatly was the dispute with Ken Penders, where he took, like, all of his characters out of the comics and Archie had to create a "New World". But even so, they still remember what happened in the "Old World".
