Scruff is an unfortunate, tragic character. Though, if I recall, it won't always be that way for her.
What is nice about Scruff, like Fall, her story is intended to start tragic and sad but then improve based on friendship. Some of us have hard starts in life. But all it takes is one person to believe in us and give us hope to change everything.

Those are the characters we can often bond with the most. Those in which, from the outside looking in, we see so much wrong. But, from the inside, she knows nothing better. :(
Stories like hers and Fall's really make you think about how some children go through these sorts of things each-and-every day. We are ignorant to the horrors that kids experience on behalf of irresponsible parents or caretakers.
I'm way too familiar with cases like this and it is tough knowing that, in some instances, they may not ever know better. Worse, they may have children and repeat the cycle that needs to be stopped regarding mistreatment and backseat parenting.
