Hopefully no single person is representing the fandom TOO much. Not that this is what is going on. I'm just saying..
It would be hard for a single person to accurately represent everybody, and this is under the assumption that these super well known people like Kage actually have as their mission a desire to represent the fandom correctly, let alone an aptitude to do so.
Similarly, just because they are prominent doesn't necessarily mean that they are "great". You are free to describe people as you wish, its just that this word is not often used except for some really exceptional people..
Maybe he IS <shrugs> I'm not very involved in the fandom. I'm just aware that politics are universal.
