i love the music, but the solo's written in a major scale while the rest is in minor... change those accidentals, they don't quite fit!

other than that, i love it. the drums on the intro could be a little less distracting (if they were PLAYED they'd blend in more, because the velocities of 16th and 32nd notes vary strike to strike in a real situation, instead of sounding electronically repeated, you know? on rolls and such, emphasize the on beat strikes (16ths would be OoOoOoOo to make it sound like one hand strikes harder, as is usual in a drummer) and that can be changed easily with the velocity on your midi controller.

other than that it sounds like you're in pretty good shape! id love to hear this played out on instruments, but MIDI's great for laying down ideas! thanks for posting.

Awesome, dude! Thanks for the critique! I don't know how I would be able to fix the drums with the program I use though. I can change volumes and whatnot with the program I use to write everything out but all of the small things like that kind of disappear once I convert it out of MIDI format. I understand what you're saying, but that'll take a few days worth of fiddling or finding a new MIDI converter, unless you have a program that will take all of those into account.

As for the proper scales to be used, thank you! I couldn't figure out what it was that sounded so wrong with the solo. lol I'll fix that now and post it up in a few minutes. :D

im not really sure how your midi program works, the one i use for drums is actually an impulse controller built into ableton LIVE. it keys samples off of midi forms, and you can adjust the volume of each hit by changing the velocity of the form, thus changing the volume at which the particular sample is played back.

try acoustica beatcraft for your drums. once you get into actually RECORDING something its horrible, but its a hell of a lot better sounding than midi! its free and comes with an assload of samples.

I tried Acoustica a while back. I wasn't too fond of it, but I'd be willing to give it another go. As for the recording, I'm afraid I don't actually have any drums to use at the moment. Even if I did, I wouldn't be able to play them (damn apartment noise ordinance nazi's). So, I generally just use the MIDI files I've written up. What really sucks is making sure that I know how to play what I'm actually writing. It's so easy to go overboard and crazy with everything, but it sucks when you eventually sit down on the drums to play what you've written for the song. lol
