Rio Ripcord comic cover #0 - Comics usually issue a #0 issue to familiarize buyers with characters and settings, its usually free and comes out before the actual run. It made sense to start it here. When my roomie Micah an I moved in together back in 06, my whole life changed. I really had needed the friend he became to me, and if I could categorize it as anything my life since has been alot like that Youtube video where the guys roommate is a ninja- [ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GU8HTmRdsTU ] yeah.. its more funny than that. We started talking about how great it would be to do a comic about our weird lives, all the craziness and hard stuff and everything.
It think it would have been fun- Micah's character would have been secretly a ninja, and my character would have seen himself as an otter- like calvin an hobbes, where calvin is the only one who can see the otter- but it'd be my character who would have his own personal view of things, like reverting to an otter when he's embarassed or angry and all. Yeah. Only an otter to himself I guess..
The name is inspired by an old coworker, who vowed to name his first two sons Trigger and Ripcord. I thought that was just so stinkin hardcore and silly. He was a crazy dude, and I hope he still does it, but its as much a reference to him as this area I live in. Its a very outdoorsy kinda area, hikin an rafting and everything. But it went from there into this larger concept, kind of capturing the feeling of all the small towns Ive lived in, of growing up in them, living in this weird between area that is rural but also urban, and not really reconciling either world. Its a weird metaphor..
I always dream too big. But I did this in answer, and gave it to him on his birthday in 06. Its been on our wall since then an its kinda a reminder to me to value his friendship, him an my other roomies. And to do stuff together now that we're workin an not always having time to just hang out. But its all good. I would love to turn this into a real comic. I have scenes running through my head still..
I think of this as one of my best pieces, if just for what it means to me. Please dont steal this, it means alot to me and my roomie both. But please comment, Id love to know what it makes you think of, if you relate, how your life is all crazy too. All of it :3 -crash

I really. Really don't know what to say about this; there are so many elements of this image that just leave me speechless and just. Staring in awe.
I like the fact that you have crammed tons of details into this, into the characters, the background, the environment... All without making it look heavily cluttered and extremely busy to the eye. Instead, they all work together and compliment one another. And without making the image flat as well, which it certainly isn't; there's an insane amount of depth in this with the train tracks leading off into distant hills and the angle of that wonderfully beat-up sign. Love the bullet holes too. =)
Incredible piece, I have to say. I loved the background story about it too; it really, really helps to add even more "umph" to this stunning picture.
