I'm afraid I don't recall the full name of this character. We haven't chatted in years now.
This was the last pic I ever drew in which I used that old "Image/WildStorm/Jim Lee Wannabe" stylized crosshatching in my inking. It became obvious to me that I was using it simply to show that I could make my drawings look detailed. But, in a lot of cases it didn't really convey the drama that solid block shading can. (Thank you Frank Miller.)
I still use feathered line style to indicate shadow intensity, but I try to keep away from crosshatching whenever possible.
Despite all of that, I do like the composition of this pic. But, I still feel like I copped out after shadowing the main body, since there's no shadowing on the wings or tail. That's mainly what got me to reevaluate my art style. Still... One of my better dragon pics. :)

I really appreciate that. :)
And, while the crosshatching might work for my older stuff, it's a device that's too immediately associated with Jim Lee and the other artists from that generation.
That's not a bad thing, by any means. But, I certainly won't be leaving any stamp of my own on the world by trying to copy that style. So, it was time for me to part ways with it. That's all. ;)
I'll admit, my art still shows a strong influence by him. But, I like to think my art is more identifiable now as mine, than it was then. :)
